MISSION
The purpose of this website is to educate, announce and publish information about African American citizens who have resided in the Chillicothe, MO area for over the last 150 years. Our goal is to encourage each family to send us information about Chillicothe so that it can be shared and passed on to future generations. Our roots are a critical part of our valued heritage that must be protected and saved. It takes each one of us to preserve our history, and share with one another so that we can become cognizant of where we came from, and who we are as African Americans. We look forward to being a part of a generation that makes a difference in the lives of others that will come after us. We also want to pass on our gratitude to those family members that came before us, and paved the way for a richer life for each of us. If it was not for our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and countless others, we would not be where we are today.
Again, we look forward to sharing our valuable information about our community and families with each other. You may send any information such as articles, movies, videos or photographs to info@mychillicothemo.com or contact Karen Shields Gittens at 816 875-4818. Please do not send original copies as they will not be returned.
Also, we would like to have your email address, home address, and phone number so that we may add you to our data base to keep you up-to-date on activities. This data will not be publicly published.
We must take this opportunity to thank Shirley Allen McKissick for spearheading the Garrison/Chillicothe Reunion and her committee. This web site is a result of my conversation with her. Thank you to Linda Dodd for the photographs and written documents about Garrison School.
Sincerely,
Karen L. Shields-Gittens
